Thanks to you, we were able to help Laura again, this time with the purchase of a new wheelchair.

Laura is growing fast. She’s taller and heavier, which meant it was time to get her a new wheelchair. The wheelchair the family had been using was seven years old and had understandably become too small for Laura. They needed a new wheelchair that would fully meet all of Laura’s needs. The new chair has a capacity of up to 70 kg, and the headrest can be adjusted as Laura continues to grow. It folds easily, is lightweight at around 16 kg, is practical, and has good wheels. Laura can only walk a maximum of 10 to 15 meters on her own, so she needs to have the wheelchair available at all times.

Since prices have been rapidly rising since the beginning of the year, assistive devices for disadvantaged children haven’t escaped the increase either. The insurance company only covers a third of the cost of the new wheelchair, so here at Pierott, we didn’t hesitate to provide a contribution to help the family, ensuring Laura can travel more comfortably and easily.

Laura is doing well at the moment, bravely undergoing all the necessary exercises and rehabilitation. Twice a week, she trains at the Regeneration-Therapeutic-Educational Center for children, Svetielko, which focuses on children with severe disabilities. This year, the family also plans for Laura to attend a TheraSuit rehabilitation stay, after which she makes tremendous progress every year. Rehabilitation stays like this are crucial and essential for Laura, as there is no cure for her diagnosis.

A message from her parents:

“We are grateful that we managed to get this wheelchair for Laura, and so quickly. Our friends waited a year for a similar chair. We need the wheelchair to transport Laura to doctors and rehabilitation sessions. There is no cure for her condition, so rehabilitation is essential. She trains at Svetielko throughout the year, partially funded by the 2% tax contribution, and Pierott helps us a lot. Thanks to you, we can even afford to pay for her rehabilitation stay in August.”

We wish Laura all the best on her heroic journey, and we firmly believe that her new wheelchair will make it easier for her to get to the challenging rehabilitation sessions and exercises, which she faces with great courage and strength.
