There is hardly a household that hasn’t been affected by the events of the past few months, both here in Slovakia and around the world. As the crisis in society worsened with the pandemic, the number of requests for help directed toward our organization also grew.
Since our ability to help those in need depends on the support we receive from our donors, we couldn’t just sit back. We decided to launch the It Will Be Okay campaign.
The goal of this initiative was, and still is, to assist people affected by the coronavirus crisis by providing basic household essentials in the form of hygiene and food packages. We focused primarily on the elderly, the most vulnerable group, who were completely isolated in their homes for months. The second group we aimed to help during the pandemic was families with children living in poverty.
We fought the virus with an Anti-Virus
Love and solidarity can heal any kind of problem or illness. When these qualities spread, they pass from person to person, behaving like a virus—but a good one.
Many people joined the campaign, choosing to support those who are weaker. Thanks to their generosity, we distributed dozens of packages, listened to the stories of both the old and young, and the strength of their struggles drove us from door to door, wherever help was needed.
In addition to the packages, we tried to bring hope and break the loneliness that was palpable with every door opened. But thankfully, after a few words, the atmosphere of fear was immediately replaced by joy, bright eyes, and smiles that even a mask couldn’t hide.
The daughter of Mrs. Antonia, one of the recipients, wrote to us:
“She asked a thousand times if all of that was really for her. She said, ‘These people don’t even know me, and they’re giving me so much.’ She sincerely thanks you. She had tears in her eyes, overwhelmed that someone remembered her, even though no one knows her.”
The crisis hasn’t fully ended, and our assistance continues.
The challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting thousands of families. Even though it seems like things have improved, we still receive urgent requests for help every day. Believe me, even a simple food package can make a world of difference for families struggling to make every cent count.
That’s why our It Will Be Okay campaign will continue until further notice.
If you feel called to help in any way, you can still do so through the official campaign website at www.budetodobre.sk.
If you can assist in another way, don’t hesitate to contact us.
All the recipients send a big, heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who has participated or plans to participate.
